The Land of Opportunity

According to the local paper there’s a growing shortage of farm workers in California. It’s seems that many are leaving the field for better paying and easier jobs. One of the areas that seems to have opened up is the construction industry. Fed by the housing boom, immigrants are in demand for the construction trades. And after working for good pay in construction, who in their right mind would want to return to the fields. Of course this makes farmers very uneasy and they are consequently pushing for legislation to make it easier to replenish the supply of workers from south of the border.
So what’s the solution? Fortunately there doesn’t seem to be much support in Washington for tightening our borders nor for finding those who have made it across.
Perhaps natural selection will provide us with the more ambitious, courageous and stronger workers as the government of our neighbor to the south continues to fail its citizens with an opportunity for prosperity.
All to our nation’s benefit.
