No-Fly Zone?

Kudos to the majority of the City Council for approving the designation of the secondary landing strip at the city’s municipal airport as low-activity. This change will allow for the development of much needed housing and associated development in the city. A speaker put it succinctly at the Council meeting when she said, "We have to ask ourselves where are the next generation . . . going to live."
I hope the Council will follow-up on a Councilman's proposal that the city conduct a cost-benefit analysis to find the true value of the airport. How many of the estimated 100,000 annual take-offs and landings actually contribute significantly to the city's economy? Does the airport primarily subsidize recreational General Aviation, or does the airport contribute to the well-being of a majority of the city's residents? As the Councilman said, "The airport is not sacred ground. Eighteen thousand kids versus 327 airplanes. To me the balance is obvious."
