Dream On

The basis for the California Lottery’s existence (shared with all gambling enterprises) is the absolute certainty that those who participate will eventually lose their money.

To quote from the California Lottery’s web site:
“Remember that over time nearly everyone loses: significant financial gain is rarely a benefit of gambling. Instead, find excitement in taking a chance, in winning sometimes and in having fun with your friends while gambling.”

While the justifications for the Lottery include furthering education in the State, it is often the case that those who are less educated pay a disproportionate share of this “entertainment tax.” But it's not all bad news. Proceeds from the Lottery for the past four years has contributed almost 2 percent of the State’s budget for education.

To quote again from the California Lottery’s web site:
“Since 1985
Fulfilling our mission to California Education!
Lottery proceeds are a critical source of income for our schools. These funds go a long way to help improve education for California’s students.”

It’s our duty to play more so we can help more. Let’s play hard and get those Lottery contributions up to a full 2 percent! Let's just hope that too much education doesn't reduce the number of Lottery players.
